See shocking pictures after MOOSE hits car in head-on collision
These incredible pictures show the horrific aftermath of a driver smashing head on into a moose which had walked into the road in front of him.
He hit the animal with such force that it crushed the front half of his vehicle, its head and antlers smashing through the roof.
Remarkable pictures taken by local resident Ashley Stoddard show the dead moose stretched across the front seats of the car.
The force of the impact meant the top of the moose's body had slammed into the roof of the vehicle. The windscreen and passenger windows were smashed.
But the driver, who has not been named, walked away, after suffering broken hands and arms. He was treated at a local hospital.
The man was driving on Route 15 in Maine, Boston, and there are more than 500 incidents of cars hitting a moose in the region each year.
Moose can grow up to seven feet tall, and weigh more than 450 kilos.
Police urge drivers to be especially careful from dusk to dawn, when they are most active.
