'He's my best friend': Jada Pinkett Smith reveals the secret of her 18 year marriage to Will Smith; already planning 20th wedding anniversary
Jada Pinkett and superstar husband Will Smith have started planning their 20th wedding anniversary even though it's more than two years away.
The 42-year-old actress on Saturday was asked for the secret behind her longtime Hollywood marriage to 45-year-old Will.
'Your partner has to be your best, best friend. And he's my best friend,' Jada told Extra at the FOX presentation for the Television Critics Association.
Jada was asked if she had any advice for Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine who wed Behati Prinsloo on Saturday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
'You have to have kind of a warrior mentality. You have to be a soldier for love,' Jada replied.
'You have to be able to withstand tough times and just because the tough times comes doesn't mean it's time stop. It means it's time to dig in,' she added.
Jada and Will were married on December 31, 1997 and despite breakup rumours over the years they've been going strong.
'We're going to be celebrating 20 years in two years, so we're starting to plan now for a big 20th year,' she said.
The actress attended the TCA summer press tour where she talked about her role as villainess Fish Mooney on the new TV show Gotham.
Her character owns a club and is 'kind of a gangster' who has her sights on taking over Gotham.
'She's pretty ruthless and violent and has quite a temper, but she's a very fun character as well,' Jada said.
Jada and Will have two children, son Jaden, 16, and 13-year-old daughter Willow.
Will also has a son, Trey, 21, from a previous relationship.
Gotham will debut on September 22 on Fox.
It also stars former The OC star Benjamin McKenzie, 35, as Detective James Gordon and Robin Lord Taylor will depict the rise of the Penguin villain.
