A political war is on course following accusations by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the Governor of Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, is supporting a 45-year-old non-student, Tijjani Usman, who claims he is the association's President.
According to Comrade Ali Wali, the duly elected President of NANS, Lamido's support for the 'illegal' President has a political undertone. He said that the Governor was using Usman as a weapon against President Goodluck Jonathan's Transformation Agenda. He went on to say that the 45-year-old 'illegal' president is not a registered student of any tertiary institution and is only being used to cause division among students.
“Tijjani Usman is a 45-year-old non-student who is not a registered student of any tertiary institution in Nigeria. NANS has discovered that Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and his cohorts are sponsoring him to cause division among Nigerian students, especially students from the North."
Wali also accused Lamido of using religious sentiments to foment trouble and called on students to 'rise up against' him.
