Filling stations in Ebonyi State shut down for TWO days
All filling stations in Ebonyi State, Nigeria were closed from Thursday 13th Nov to Friday, 14th causing widespread apprehension all over the state. No filling station sold any fuel product for those two days. The closure was total. People had to make the one hour trip to Enugu to buy fuel. Many travelled with empty kegs to buy even for their generators.
It came as a surprise to me personally as I haven't seen such a thing done all over a state before. But the real surprise came when I found out the reason behind the total closure. On Wednesday, 12th Nov, a tanker carrying PMS (petrol) for one of the big petrol dealers in town was prevented from discharging adulterated fuel into their filling station by regulators. The reason was to prevent them from selling this adulterated PMS to consumers. This dealer, then rallied round and got their union to close all filling stations in the state until they are allowed to discharge the adulterated fuel.
It is indeed sad that others would openly support criminality in such a form. The reason for preventing a filling station from selling adulterated fuel is obvious, but the wanton support for such immorality by others in their union is regrettable. Why should Nigerians support wickedness to other Nigerians? Why would a filling station be supported in selling adulterated fuel to consumers? It is so sad.
The good news if that all filling stations began selling fuel yesterday, Saturday, 15th Nov. Fuel is now everywhere. However, how the issue was resolved is still a mystery. I will share that information as soon as I have it.
