Mark Hughes has added Chelsea’s Victor Moses to his squad at Stoke on a season loan. The Nigerian international spent last season on loan at Liverpool, but started just six Premier League games in a disappointing individual campaign has done little to persuade Jose Mourinho of his worth.
Hughes was looking to bring in Liverpool’s Oussama Assaidi on a permanent deal after an impressive loan spell last season, but have turned his attention to Moses following the Liverpool man’s excessive wage demands.
Moses joined Chelsea in the summer of 2012 from Wigan for a fee of £9 million and enjoyed a good campaign, scoring 10 goals in 43 appearances. Despite the success of his first season in South London the Nigerian has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Blues, with his career having seemingly stalled in the past 12 months.
Moses is Stoke’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Steve Sidwell, Phil Bardsley, Bojan Krkic and Mame Biram Diouf.
He currently finds himself behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah in the Chelsea pecking order.
The Chelsea boss is targeting a title charge this season following the acquisitions of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis.
