Police officer rapes girl while other officers stand guard and cover up the crime

A family in Texas, was angry when their local police force stood behind and protected a child rapist.

The family hired an attorney, who asked The Texas Ranger Division to investigate, leading to the officer’s arrest.

A grand jury indicted the former Pharr police officer after he allegedly sexually assaulted the underage girl several times, according to court documents.

25-year-old Erasmo Mata Jr., is accused of having sex with the 17-year-old girl during work hours, on five separate occasions, records show.

Richard Alamia, the lawyer for the family of the teenager, said that other police officers watched and stood guard as Mata committed the sexual assaults and that the department tried to cover up the case.

The family filed a lawsuit against the City of Pharr, its police department, police chief and Mata, claiming that no criminal charges were filed against the officers who took the girl to the abandoned houses throughout the city to have sex.

Alamia asked the Texas Rangers to conduct its own investigation into the allegations, which was found to be accurate.

The Rangers then delivered the results to prosecutors, who presented the case to a grand jury. The grand jury voted to indicted Mata.

A subsequent internal investigation found that Mata engaged in sexual conduct with the victim, leading to his termination with the police department.
