She is the winner of Orange Is The New Black's very first acting award. And having that award handed to her by none other than Morgan Freeman proved to be an emotional moment for Uzo Aduba, who broke down in tears as she received the honor.
The actress responsible for portraying Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' gave a speech she'll remember at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Freeman stood with a poised smile on his face and later watched as Uzo delivered a gracious acceptance speech to the star-studded audience.
With tears in her eyes, she said on the podium: 'I don't know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show.'
Upon hearing that she had been nominated, Uzo previously told The Hollywood Reporter: 'I just can't even believe it. I'm speechless.'
In 2013, Uzo told the Huffington Post that she originally auditioned for a different part, but that the casting director saw potential in her for Crazy Eyes.
'And to be honest, when I got the script for it, it felt like the right fit,' the actress said about being offered the different role.
Although star Taylor Schilling has been nominated for her work in the past, Uzo's win marks the very first for the series as a whole in the acting category.
