The police at Area E, Festac, Lagos, recently made a breakthrough by arresting a 33-year-old man, Kelechi Willaims Mojekwu, for strangling his 39-year-old lover, Njideka Lizzy Nzewe, to death in her apartment at Green Estate, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos. The arrest of the suspect within seven days of committing the offence was spectacular going by the fact that he eloped to Ghana soon after killing the mother of four. From there, he also fled to Cote d'Ivoire where he was eventually arrested.
The incident happened at her Green Estate residence in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos on July 19 between 1.00 and 3.00 in the early hours of the morning. The killer, Kelechukwu Williams Mojekwu, 33, reportedly strangled the woman and took her jewelries, four handsets, I-Pad, Gold, Trinkets and thousands of dollars and Naira kept by the woman because she was to pack out of that very house on that fateful day to a new apartment in Festac town. He also took her Range Rover SUV and drove off. She was to travel to the US on vacation with her four kids on the Thurday following that day.
He altered the name and picture on her international passport and used it to drive her car across the border at Seme and continued to Ghana. There, he asked a pastor to bless the car and celebrated his "new car" with drinks.
Meanwhile the relatives of the deceased who knew that Kelechi was in possession of the car, reported the case to the Festac Police. they also reported that he was still using her phone and that the SUV had a tracker. With this information, the police contacted the Ghana police who began to track him.
When Kelechi realised that they were on his tail, he became uncomfortable and began to drive to Cote d'Ivoire. This movement was tracked from Lagos and the information passed on to the Ghanian Police. They, in turn, contacted the Ivorian Police with the details of the vehicle and the killer was eventually captured at a check point. He was handed over to Interpol in Cote d'Ivoire from where he was brought to Ghana and then to Nigeria.
