In the case of Nori's ears, however, they may have turned. When Kim and Kanye took North to a children's museum in New York to celebrate her first birthday, eagle-eyed observers noted some glittering new diamonds in Nori's ears. Twitter erupted with criticism of Kimye's decision.
Some Twitter users noted that infants get their ears pierced in many cultures, but that didn't assuage another issue: That a 1-year-old is wearing diamond studs.
ONTD points out that Alec and Hilaria Baldwin faced similar criticism for sharing photos of their 10-month-old daughter Carmen with earrings earlier this year. Hilaria is from Mallorca, and "It's not unusual for Spanish families to have their daughters' ears pierced when they are still infants." Another fan supported Hilaria after she shared the photo below, commenting, "For Latin Americans/ Spaniards the norm is to get baby girls' ears pierced early. My sisters were done while still in the hospital in Montevideo, Uruguay."
A pediatrician tells me that that 8 is the ideal age at which to pierce a child's ears if he or she asks. By then, the child is old enough to take proper care of the new piercings. What do you think of the controversy over North's ears?
When do you think is the right age to pierce your daughter's ears?
