Chris Brown Concert Ends in Gunshots, Five People Injured

Five people were shot and wounded early Sunday morning during Chris Brown's performance at San Jose, California's Fiesta nightclub. Following the shooting, Brown tweeted "I'm 100," alerting fans that he was uninjured in the shooting, but that tweet was later deleted, the San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Gate report.

Brown was in San Jose to perform at a "birthday bash" thrown by San Francisco hip-hop station 106 KMEL. The Mercury News writes that when police arrived on the scene, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds; a fifth person later admitted themselves to the hospital. The conditions of those shot in the incident weren't detailed but each victim is expected to survive. Police detained several people following the shooting but no arrests were made.

As the shooting occurred during Brown's performance, video of the incident has emerged. In the above video, Brown performs onstage surrounded by his entourage as dozens of cell phone cameras in the crowd capture the performance. Just after the one minute-mark, the crowd's attention is diverted to the left of the stage where a large altercation appears to be breaking out. Loud pops that sound like gunshots ring out and the audience quickly begins to hit the ground or evacuate the club. Ten seconds later, the music is cut and Brown's entourage usher the singer offstage. More video of the aftermath of the shooting, with the club quickly clearing out as alarm bells rang, was also posted on YouTube (via Vibe).

In August 2014, Death Row Records exec Suge Knight was shot six times at a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by Chris Brown in Los Angeles. "This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event. He has and will continue to cooperate with the investigation," Brown's rep said at the time. 

Brown's small club gig was supposed to be a warm-up for his much-larger North American tour that kicks off January 27th in Hampton, Virginia.
