A man was hospitalized after he was severely beaten for raping a young girl.
The 26-year-old suspect was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in front of her mother. He is recovering in the hospital after police rescued him from angry community members.
The incident occurred in a village near Giyani, South Africa.
According to witnesses, the man broke into the home of a woman at 4:00 a.m. He then grabbed the daughter and threatened to stab the girl with a screwdriver if the mother, who was in the same room with her, did anything to stop him from the rape.
“He raped the teen while her mother looked on helplessly, and she was unable to act for fear that she would be stabbed to death,” said a neighbor.
When he was done, the attacker stole the mother and daughter’s cell phones, some cash, and a blanket. He fled the scene before police arrived.
The man found a place to hide and fell asleep, unaware that the community members were searching for him.
They found him sleeping and beat him up until police came and rescued him.
“He is currently in the hospital under police guard while police are still investigating the case,” Giyani police spokesman Warrant Officer Thomas Makhubele said.
When he is released from the hospital, the suspect is expected to be charged for the rape and theft.
