Newlyweds get shock of their lives from childhood holiday snap - you'll never guess why

A little boy of six proudly poses for a family snapshot in the sand boat he has dug with his sister and two cousins.

Behind him, happily building a sandcastle with her dad and sister, is a stranger on the shore.

The girl and boy ignored each other, yet 20 years later – as they planned their wedding – found this photo of them just yards apart.

The picture was taken when Nick Wheeler’s family travelled from Kent for a holiday in Mousehole, Cornwall, where Aimee Maiden grew up.

Teacher Aimee, now 25, said: “The photo was taken by Nick’s grandad. Nick is sitting front-right in the boat with his sister and two cousins and his family – his mum, uncle and nan are to the right and behind them.

“To the left and behind his cousin I’m in the blue swimsuit with my mum, dad and sister.”
Nick’s family later moved to Cornwall and the couple had thought that the first time fate brought them together was when they met as sixth-formers in Truro nine years ago.

Soldier Nick, 26, and Aimee found out about their day out, nearly together, on Mousehole beach while looking at old snaps at his grandparents’ house.

The newlyweds are now on honeymoon in Florida after their church wedding in, of course, Mousehole.
