Unidentified gunmen on Sunday night opened fire on a group of Muslim worshippers in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, injuring three persons.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 9p.m. during Tarawi‘s prayers, after the Muslims broke their fast.
The Secretary, Bukuru Elders’ Committee, Bala Baba Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen opened fire on a group of worshippers in a mosque, adding that “sometimes ago, a rocket launcher was shot at us from Gyel, then grenades were also thrown at us, there have also been persistent shootings from the community and we don’t know why they are attacking us.
“We the Bukuru Elders’ Council are calling on the federal, state and local governments to intervene. We are also using this opportunity to call on the community leaders in Gyel to come forward for dialogue so that we know why they keep attacking us.”
It was also gathered that two of the victims of the attack, Lawal Muhammad and Bashir Iliyasu are presently being hospitalised in Jos, while the third victim had been discharged.
The Media and Information Officer of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Ikedichi Iweha, who confirmed the attack on phone, said the situation was brought under control by the task force.
