They're battling rumours of a marriage breakdown amid their On The Run world tour. And adding fuel to fire, Beyonce allegedly went apartment hunting in New York without husband Jay Z.
According to the New York Post, the 32-year-old toured a $21.5 million penthouse in Chelsea last month 'on the sly.'
'She was very quiet, as if she was looking on the sly,' a source told the publication.
Insiders told the paper that Jay Z's alleged absence is telling because he has always played a strong role in their real estate searches.
The West 19th Street apartment that Beyonce reportedly looked at is less than half the size of their current 8,309-square-foot apartment in Tribeca.
'I can say with certainty that Jay is not downsizing,' a source said.
Sources speculated the penthouse is for the star and her and Jay Z's two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
'There’s no way a $20 million apartment is for her mother or her sister. That would be wildly unlikely,’ the source said.
It comes amid reports in The New York Post that their relationship is rocks, with a source claiming to Page Six: 'There’s still something there, even though it’s not going to last. Business is always part of the equation. They know they’re the king and queen of hip-hop — and really, all of music. Neither wants to lose that.'
The insider also alleged: 'Knowing them as I do, obviously there’s a little something to certain rumors. When your man or your woman isn’t getting it done for you, and I’m talking emotionally, not necessarily sexually… they keep things quiet.'
The stars seem unruffled by rumours their marriage is in trouble. They put on a solid display of unity at Thursday night's concert in Chicago with the rapper embracing his wife as per usual, and the songstress later posted an image of the two of them in action on stage to Instagram.
The New York Post reported last week that the couple plan to split once their tour comes to an end in September.
